About the Role
Technical Manager
Location: Scotland
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Alexander Steele Recruitment are delighted to be partnering with a leading Scottish food manufacturing business that supplies high-quality products to all major retailers across the United Kingdom.
Due to continued growth and significant investment, our client is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Technical Manager to join their senior leadership team. This is a hands-on, highly visible role that will play a critical part in maintaining technical excellence, driving standards, and strengthening retailer partnerships.
The Role
As Technical Manager, you will take full responsibility for the site’s technical function, leading from the front and embedding a culture of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the business.
This is not a desk-based position. The successful candidate will be fully immersed in factory operations, working closely with production, NPD, engineering, and commercial teams to ensure products consistently meet the highest technical and customer standards.
You will:
Lead and develop a large, multi-disciplined technical team (QA, QC, hygiene, compliance)
Act as the primary technical contact for major UK retail customers
Manage retailer audits, BRC audits, and customer visits
Drive site-wide food safety and quality culture initiatives
Ensure full compliance with retailer COPs, legal requirements, and internal standards
Oversee HACCP, TACCP & VACCP systems
Manage customer complaints, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions
Support NPD processes from concept to launch, ensuring technical integrity
Provide clear technical direction to the senior leadership team
Champion continuous improvement across systems, standards, and performance metrics
The Candidate
We are looking for a confident and credible technical leader who thrives in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
You will ideally have:
Proven experience as a Technical Manager or Senior Technical professional within UK food manufacturing
Strong working knowledge of major UK retailer standards
Experience managing large technical teams
Demonstrable success leading BRC and retailer audits
Excellent stakeholder management skills
A hands-on leadership style with strong factory presence
A proactive, solutions-focused mindset
This role requires resilience, commercial awareness, and the ability to influence at all levels — from shop floor to retailer technical teams.
What’s On Offer
Competitive salary package
Opportunity to join a growing, forward-thinking business
Senior leadership exposure
Genuine autonomy and influence
Long-term career progression
If you are an experienced technical professional ready to take ownership of a pivotal leadership role within a respected Scottish food manufacturing business, we would love to hear from you.
