Head of Finance

An ambitious public sector organisation is looking for a proactive and experienced Head of Finance to lead key areas of its Financial Planning and Technical Finance functions.

Reporting to senior leadership, you’ll provide high‑level financial expertise, ensure strong statutory compliance, and guide the delivery of robust financial operations during a period of significant organisational change.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead technical finance areas including statutory accounting, treasury, taxation, and financial governance

• Act as a senior financial adviser to executive leaders and committees

• Oversee year‑end processes and the production of statutory accounts

• Manage and develop finance teams across technical, treasury, insurance, income and payments

• Drive improvements in compliance, risk management, and financial innovation

• Maintain an expert understanding of relevant legislation and accounting standards

About You

• Qualified finance professional (CIPFA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)

• Strong leadership and people‑management experience

• Proven capability in delivering high‑quality financial services in complex environments

• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑influencing skills

• Collaborative, solutions‑focused mindset

• Experience in local government or public sector finance is highly advantageous
