We offer a wide variety of career opportunities, as well as an outstanding environment for professional growth and development. </p><p></p><p><b>Position Summary</b> </p><p>The University of Virginia Health Development Office seeks accomplished and strategic fundraising professionals to fill the positions of Associate Director of Development <b><u>and</u></b> Senior Associate Director of Development for the School of Medicine. </p><p></p><p>Reporting to the Director of Development, School of Medicine – Medical Alumni, these major gift officers will engage medical alumni to build relationships, strengthen the major gift pipeline, and secure philanthropic support.</p><p></p><p>Both positions will focus on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding prospects and donors, with an emphasis on alumni discovery work and major gift development. Each role will manage a regional portfolio and collaborate closely with faculty, advancement colleagues, and volunteer leaders.</p><p></p><p>Additionally, these positions will help shape strategic direction for the Medical Alumni team, serving as thought partners to the Director of Development and other senior leaders across UVA Health Development. </p><p></p><p>The Senior Associate Director will additionally contribute to team wide strategy, provide leadership within the Medical Alumni development team, and help shape long term fundraising priorities.</p><p></p><p><b>Responsibilities</b> (for both roles)</p><ul><li><p>Solicit and secure blended and major gifts.</p></li><li><p>Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major gift prospects for the School of Medicine.</p></li><li><p>Travel nationally to build relationships with alumni and donors.</p></li><li><p>Advance the mission, vision, and fundraising priorities of UVA Health and the School of Medicine.</p></li><li><p>Develop and execute individualized donor strategies and fundraising plans.</p></li><li><p>Collaborate with colleagues across UVA Health Development on proposals, prospect strategy, and faculty partnerships.</p></li><li><p>Partner with the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) and Medical School Foundation (MSF) on alumni engagement, events, communications, and philanthropic initiatives.</p></li><li><p>Maintain accurate donor and prospect records in the Advancement CRM.</p></li><li><p>Represent UVA and the School of Medicine with professionalism, emotional intelligence, and strong communication skills.</p></li></ul><h2></h2><p><b>Minimum Qualifications </b>(Associate Director of Development)</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor’s degree.</p></li><li><p>Minimum of 3 years of fundraising, with a consistent record of securing gifts of $25,000+.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage a portfolio of prospects.</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate mission and priorities.</p></li><li><p>Ability to travel frequently and work occasional evenings/weekends.</p></li><li><p>Valid driver’s license.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications </b>(Associate Director of Development)</p><ul><li><p>Master’s degree and 4+ years of fundraising experience.</p></li><li><p>Previous experience in higher education, academic medicine, or alumni relations.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with planned giving concepts.</p></li><li><p>Proven success collaborating with faculty and organizational leaders.</p></li><li><p>Experience serving as an ambassador at institutional events and donor engagements.</p></li><li><p>Salesforce CRM experience.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications</b> (Senior Associate Director of Development)</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor’s degree and at least 5 years of previous fundraising experience.</p></li><li><p>Consistent record of soliciting and closing gifts of $100,000+.</p></li><li><p>Ability to effectively articulate the school’s mission, strategic aims, and fundraising programs; strong verbal and written communication skills.</p></li><li><p>Experience working in a significant fundraising campaign or capital campaign and meeting desired goals.</p></li><li><p>Experience managing high-level relationships.</p></li><li><p>Proven success collaborating with faculty and organizational leaders.</p></li><li><p>Experience serving as an ambassador at institutional events and donor engagements.</p></li><li><p>Proven ability to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with high emotional intelligence and professionalism.</p></li><li><p>Ability to use a database to maintain and review records and reports such as donor data, prospect contacts, solicitations, and proposals.</p></li><li><p>Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.</p></li><li><p>Ability to hold oneself accountable to goals and metrics.</p></li><li><p>Ability to travel frequently, as well as conduct occasional evening and weekend work.</p></li><li><p>Valid driver’s license.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Preferred Qualifications</b> </p><ul><li><p>Master’s degree and 8+ years of previous fundraising experience.</p></li><li><p>Success within collaborative fundraising models.</p></li><li><p>Robust understanding of principles of philanthropy, higher education, alumni relations, and relationship management.</p></li><li><p>Familiarity with planned giving concepts, tools, and donor conversations.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising, including experience soliciting and closing gifts at the $100,000+ level.</p></li><li><p>Previous experience working in an academic medical center and / or an academic/alumni fundraising environment.</p></li><li><p>Proven experience building relationships with academic medical faculty and comparable organizational leaders.</p></li><li><p>Salesforce CRM experience.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Physical Demands</b> </p><p>This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.</p><p></p><p><b>Salary Range</b> </p><p>The anticipated hiring range for each position is:</p><p></p><ul><li><p>Associate Director of Development = <b>$80K - $90K / year</b>, commensurate with education and experience.</p></li><li><p>Senior Associate Director of Development = <b>$90K - $105K / year</b>, commensurate with education and experience.</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>Position Type & Work Location</b> </p><ul><li><p>These are exempt-level, benefited positions. These hybrid positions can be worked remotely periodically, although frequent in-person work in our office buildings, on UVA Grounds, or at event venues is required.
