Parts Department Manager – Heavy-Duty Engines

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Parts Department Manager to oversee parts procurement, inventory control, and distribution for a heavy-duty engine machining operation. This role supports engine builds for CAT, Cummins, Detroit, and similar platforms while managing a profitable retail/wholesale parts counter.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage inventory levels, cycle counts, and warehouse organization

• Source parts, negotiate pricing, and resolve backorders quickly

• Support machinists and customers with accurate part identification

• Coordinate with the Shop Foreman to align parts delivery with build schedules

• Manage departmental P&L, margins, core returns, and warranty credits

• Supervise parts counter and shipping/receiving staff

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred

• 5+ years in heavy-duty parts (truck, construction, or ag)

• 2+ years in a supervisory or management role

• Strong knowledge of diesel and natural gas engine components

• Experience with ERP/DMS systems and electronic parts catalogs

• Familiarity with LTL freight and urgent “engine-down” situations

• Ability to operate forklifts and lift up to 50–75 lbs

Why This Role Is Different

This is not a typical parts counter position. Precision matters. The parts you manage must perform under extreme operating conditions, making accuracy, timing, and technical knowledge essential.
