Are you an experienced Technical Bid, Estimating or Proposals professional looking to take ownership of end‑to‑end quotation activity? Our client, a leading organisation in the manufacturing/engineering sector, is seeking a highly organised and commercially astute Technical Bid Manager to lead their quotation function and ensure their bids are accurate, competitive, and fully aligned with customer requirements.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who thrives in a technical, fast-paced environment and enjoys bringing clarity, structure, and leadership to the bidding process.

The Role

As the Technical Bid Manager, you will be responsible for managing the complete quotation lifecycle — from initial enquiry through to final submission. You’ll review technical packs, coordinate costings across multiple teams, and ensure every quote is robust, compliant, and commercially viable. You’ll also play a key role in driving continuous improvement across the bid process and providing effective leadership to the estimating/quotations team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the full quotation and bid process from initial enquiry to final submission
  • Prioritise and coordinate team workload across materials costing, labour estimation, and quote creation
  • Review and interpret technical data packs, drawings, BoMs, specifications, and customer documentation
  • Build accurate cost models covering materials, labour, subcontract services, and other associated costs
  • Work closely with engineering, procurement, operations, and commercial teams to ensure alignment
  • Identify and escalate technical, commercial, and operational risks
  • Ensure customer deadlines and internal turnaround targets are consistently achieved
  • Support the development of pricing strategies that deliver competitiveness and protect margins
  • Maintain clear, traceable quotation records and assumptions
  • Drive improvements in costing methods, process efficiency, and bid quality
  • Provide leadership, direction, and accountability within the estimating/quotations team
  • Act as a key stakeholder in the internal bid review and approval process
Skills & Experience Required
  • Background in technical bidding, estimating, quotations, or proposals within a manufacturing/engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of material costing, labour costing, and pricing principles
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer data packs
  • Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer needs and business margins
  • Highly organised with strong workload management and multitasking skills
  • Experience coordinating or leading team activities
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross‑functionally
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Confident using ERP systems, costing tools, and Microsoft Excel
Desirable
  • Experience within electronics, engineering, or contract manufacturing
  • Knowledge of subcontract processes, supply chain costing, and production methods
  • Previous team leadership or people management experience
  • Experience supporting bids for OEM or regulated industry customers
Why Apply?
  • Opportunity to take ownership of a crucial function within a respected technical business
  • Chance to lead and shape bid processes and team performance
  • Join a stable, forward‑thinking company with strong growth plans
