Role Overview – Technical WriterReporting to senior product and engineering leadership, the Technical Writer will create, maintain and improve documentation that supports product adoption, developer productivity and operational readiness. The role combines hands‑on content creation with collaboration across cross‑functional teams to ensure documentation is accurate, accessible and aligned with product goals. You will work closely with engineers, product managers, designers and support teams to collect domain knowledge, translate technical concepts into clear guidance and contribute to documentation tooling and workflows.
Produce and maintain a range of technical content including user guides, API documentation, developer guides, runbooks, release notes and onboarding materials to support customers and internal teams.
Work with engineering and product teams to gather requirements, clarify workflows and validate technical accuracy through interviews, code review and hands‑on exploration.
Design clear, task‑oriented documentation structures and navigation to help readers find relevant information quickly and reduce support load.
Author example code snippets, configuration examples and step‑by‑step tutorials; ensure code is idiomatic, tested and kept in sync with product changes.
Establish and promote documentation standards, style guides and content templates to ensure consistency, clarity and accessibility across documentation sets.
Contribute to documentation tooling, static site generators, content workflows and CI processes that automate builds, link checking and publishing.
Maintain versioned documentation and support release‑time updates, coordinating with release engineers and product owners to schedule content changes.
Collect and act on user feedback and analytics (search queries, page metrics, support tickets) to prioritise documentation improvements and measure impact.
Mentor colleagues on writing best practices, run workshops and collaborate to embed documentation in the product development lifecycle.
Bachelor’s degree in English, Technical Communication, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven experience (typically 2+ years) producing technical documentation for software products, APIs or developer tools in a professional environment.
Strong ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely for varied audiences (developers, operators, product users).
Familiarity with documentation patterns for RESTful and GraphQL APIs, SDKs and CLI tools, including examples and error handling guidance.
Practical experience writing code samples in one or more languages (e.g., JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go) and validating snippets against live environments where practicable.
Experience with documentation tooling such as static site generators (e.g., Docusaurus, MkDocs), markdown, AsciiDoc, or similar authoring frameworks.
Good understanding of content workflows, version control (Git), CI for docs, automated link checking and localisation considerations.
Awareness of accessibility and plain‑English principles to produce inclusive, well‑structured content.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with distributed, cross‑functional teams.
Experience with developer experience (DX) initiatives, contributing to developer portals, API reference generation (OpenAPI/Swagger) or SDK documentation pipelines.
Familiarity with content design for product marketing, tutorials, and learning paths including interactive examples or sandbox environments.
Experience applying analytics to documentation (search, click‑through, task completion) and using results to inform prioritisation.
Contributions to open source projects, public technical writing, or community documentation are advantageous.
