About the role:
Justteachers are recruiting for a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive primary school in Bradford on a full-time basis.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them to engage with learning, develop positive behaviours, and reach their full potential both academically and socially.
Working closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and wider school staff, you will provide tailored support to pupils who may face barriers to learning due to emotional, behavioural, or mental health challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
- Support pupils in managing emotions and regulating behaviour.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with children to encourage engagement and progress.
- Assist in delivering learning activities both inside and outside the classroom.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and intervention programmes.
- Promote a positive, safe, and inclusive learning environment.
- Support pupils during breaktimes, transitions, and other less structured parts of the school day.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals where required.
- Monitor and record pupil progress and wellbeing.
Pre-requisites:
- Previous experience working with children in an educational, care, youth work, or support setting
- Understanding of SEMH needs and the impact they can have on learning and behaviour.
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive and professional relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Two satisfactory professional references.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
