About the Role
On behalf of a leading student accommodation provider, we're looking for a practical and well-organised Maintenance Operative to join their on-site team on a fixed-term contract, with strong potential for a permanent role.You'll be an essential part of the day-to-day operations, carrying out general repairs, supporting compliance routines, and ensuring residents enjoy a well-maintained, safe, and welcoming environment. This is a visible, service-focused role, blending technical work with great customer interaction.This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in keeping buildings in top shape, enjoys a hands-on mix of maintenance, safety checks, and coordination, and is keen to progress in the property or facilities management sector.Key Responsibilities:Repairs & MaintenanceHandle minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks (e.g. fixing leaks, replacing bulbs, adjusting doors)Keep communal areas and apartments in good repair, including seasonal external upkeepAssist with refurbishment projects and HVAC maintenance (e.g. filter checks, diagnostics)Monitor and supervise contractors to ensure quality and complianceRoutine Checks & Site DutiesInspect plant equipment, fire escapes, emergency lights, and security featuresSecure restricted areas (risers, stores, cupboards) dailyMaintain clean bin stores and clear litter around the propertyRecord temperature checks and perform weekly/monthly compliance routinesEscalate faults and support the Assistant Manager with daily tasksFacilities Support & ComplianceCoordinate appointments with residents and contractors; respond to email requestsMaintain digital task logs and inspection recordsConduct compliance checks and upload reports to internal systemsPromote and uphold health and safety standards in all tasksTeamwork & ServiceDeliver excellent customer service with a professional, approachable attitudeWork closely with colleagues and support wider team goalsContribute to a culture of safety, learning, and high standardsStay proactive with training and process improvementsWhat You'll Bring:EssentialBackground in property maintenance or facilities rolesReliable, well-organised, with strong communication and time-management skillsConfident with day-to-day building systems (basic electrics, plumbing, general repair)Experience using digital tools and systems for task trackingFriendly and professional with a focus on serviceFluent in English and eligible to work in the UKDesirableRelevant trade qualification (NVQ or similar) in plumbing, electrics, or general maintenanceExperience with preventative maintenance schedulingFirst aid, fire marshal, or H&S certifications (or willingness to obtain)Details:Location: Elephant & Castle, LondonHours: Full-time, Monday to FridayThis is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-regarded residential brand, develop your skills, and build a long-term future in the facilities sector.
