Department General Accounting Compensation $57,834.00 Annual General Description / Primary Purpose: This position reports directly to a coordinator of accounting and provides accounting services to support the whole campus. Services provided include financial statements preparation and analysis, numerous complex liabilities reconciliations including procurement card campus wide, journal voucher processing, inventory control and reconciliation, and recording and analysis of the petty cash for a number of departments on campus. This position serves as a backup for the coordinator of accounting. Position requires the ability to analyze business situations and to independently develop recommendations and solutions to mitigate risks and improve business controls and reporting of financial results. Our current systems are very complex and require very detailed analysis of the financial transactions. The knowledge and experience of SCT Banner is very important and necessary to perform the correct analysis. If this position were not filled a void would exist in trying to fulfill our requirements relative to accounts receivables and liabilities reconciliation, campus wide inventories, preparation of financial statements and other duties provided by this position. Job Function: 30% Monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations. These include the review and analysis of furniture and equipment, library collections, and minor projects. 25% Review, key, and approve journal entries, accounting adjustments, and asset registrations in Workday. 10% Assist and guide the campus community with questions related to transactions in Workday as well as general capital asset questions. 10% Works closely with the property department to ensure the proper entry and classification of university purchases. 5% Process and analyze monthly depreciation and overhead charges. Fix issues as required. 5% Reviews and remits building and capital improvement fees to the DOE. 5% Backup to Asset Accounting Coordinator on the monthly 442 request and other ad hoc reports as needed. Serve as backup for the weekly check run. 5% Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements. 5% Other duties as assigned. Marginal Functions: Backup for the coordinator of accounting. The incumbent will cross-train with the other accountant (position 312990) and perform the duties of that position if necessary. Departmental Requirements: Preference given to applicants that possess the following:CPA, Experience in Higher Education or Government, Strong analytical skills. Detail oriented. Strong customer service and communication (oral and written) skills. Supervision Exercised: None Supervision Received: The incumbent performs routine assignments independently and only unusual problems which may require exceptions to procedures are referred to the supervisor. Level of Public Contact: This position has daily contact internally with faculty, staff and departmental administrators. Monetary Responsibility: This position assists with the proper financial reporting of funds in excess of $100 million dollars annually. Any degree in error can result in severe consequences such as a qualified audit opinion. Policy-making and/or Interpretation: This position will assist in the interpretation of established University Board of Trustees and the State Board of Governors policies relating to accounting practices. This position will assist in the interpretation of Florida Statutes and federal regulations as they relate to Accounting procedures. This position will assist in the development of policies as they relate to the Accounting Principles within the Controller's Office. Program Direction and Development: This position helps to insure that the goals and objectives of the Controller's Office/General Accounting Unit are understood and met. This position helps to develop procedures to help meet these goals and objectives. Provides direction to Accountants as it relates to policies, programs and procedures. Helps to ensure that the financial and administrative needs of a diverse and dynamic campus community are met, while helping to ensure appropriate legal compliance and the financial health and integrity of the University is maintained. Required Qualifications Master's or Bachelor's degree and 2+ years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.
