About the Role
Principal Data Platform Engineer –Full-Stack Analytics We are seeking a hands-on principal engineer to lead the architecture and development of a greenfield data and analytics platform for a high-volume, regulated enterprise environment. This role spans the full platform: lakehouse architecture, streaming and batch pipelines, data services, and a web-based reporting portal. You will set technical direction while remaining actively involved in design, coding, performance optimization, and delivery. What You’ll Do Design and evolve a scalable lakehouse architecture centered on Apache Iceberg, cloud object storage, catalog services, and distributed SQL query engines.Build reliable Python and Apache Kafka pipelines for real-time and batch ingestion from transactional systems, APIs, and event-driven data sources.Develop Node.Js REST APIs that securely deliver analytical data, reports, and export files to downstream applications.Build and enhance React-based dashboards, reporting workflows, self-service analytics, and scheduled exports.Design and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, indexing strategies, and metadata services.Implement data quality, governance, security, access controls, and regulatory reporting capabilities.Deploy and operate containerized data services in AWS or Azure using Docker and Kubernetes.Establish observability and performance monitoring using tools such as Prometheus and Grafana.Define engineering standards, improve CI/CD practices, document platform architecture, and mentor other engineers. What You’ll Need 8+ years of data engineering or data-platform development experience, including at least 3 years in a principal, architect, or technical lead capacity.Advanced production experience with Apache Kafka, Python, and Apache Iceberg.Strong knowledge of Iceberg partitioning, schema evolution, snapshot management, catalog integration, and performance optimization.Experience with a distributed SQL engine such as Trino, Dremio, StarRocks, or a comparable platform.Hands-on Node.Js experience building production REST APIs and back-end services.Hands-on React experience developing analytical dashboards or data-intensive web applications.Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including schema design, indexing, query optimization, and application-supporting workloads.Experience with cloud object storage, Docker, Kubernetes, and either AWS or Azure.Strong understanding of analytical data modeling, data quality, governance, and batch/streaming architecture.Experience with automated testing, Git-based CI/CD, monitoring, and production troubleshooting.Demonstrated ability to lead architecture decisions, mentor engineers, and communicate with technical and business stakeholders.Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related discipline.U.S. Work authorization and the ability to satisfy applicable background, licensing, and compliance requirements. Experience building a new data platform from the ground up—particularly in a regulated, transaction-intensive environment—is strongly preferred.
