Definition  Employees in this class are under general supervision. Work performed in maintaining greenhouse operations. Performs other duties as assigned.  Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities Propagates plants. Controls growing conditions. Checks and adjusts temperature, light, and humidity to proper levels. Inspects plants for disease, pests, etc. and treats as required. Combines various soil types, mixes and materials to meet plant growth requirements. Mows, trims, rakes, edges, weeds, and picks up trash in area. Makes minor repairs to equipment. Oversees helpers during peak periods or special projects. Performs other duties as assigned.  Required Knowledge and Abilities Willingness to work until job demands are met. Ability to operate a greenhouse including environmental conditions and maintenance. Ability to maintain proper conditions for plant propagation. Ability to perceive small differences in objects and spatial relationships. Ability to attend to visual details. Ability to make precise arm-hand positioning movements where strength and speed are minimum. Dynamic strength (ability to exert muscular force repeatedly or continuously over time). Ability to use reference materials and manuals. Ability to use simple hand tools. Skill in making precise manipulations with simple hand tools.  Recommended Qualifications Applicants possessing these qualifications have a good probability for success in this class. However, applicants not possessing these qualifications should apply if they believe their training and experience will enable them to perform the work successfully. High school graduate or equivalent; six months experience working in a greenhouse or nursery.
