SEMH Teaching Assistant - Grantham

About the role:

Justteachers is seeking a full-time SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist provision in the Grantham area from September 2026 on a long-term basis.
The setting supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), learning difficulties, and associated communication needs. The provision offers a structured and nurturing environment focused on helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional regulation skills, and achieve positive educational outcomes.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral teams and wider professionals to provide consistent support, helping pupils engage positively with education and build confidence both academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
• Support pupils to access learning and engage positively in classroom activities
• Implement behaviour support plans and emotional regulation strategies
• Build positive, trusting relationships to encourage engagement and attendance
• Promote resilience, confidence and independence
• Support pupils during transitions and unstructured periods throughout the school day
• Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff and external professionals
• Monitor and record pupil progress, wellbeing and behaviour
• Contribute to maintaining a safe, structured and supportive learning environment

Pre-requisites:

• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs (school, care or similar setting desirable)
• A calm, patient and resilient approach
• Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
• Understanding of trauma-informed and restorative approaches is desirable
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to adapt support to meet individual pupil needs
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
• Right to work in the UK
