Cover Supervisor Wharfe Valley

About the role:

justteachers is seeking a confident, reliable and adaptable Cover Supervisor to work in a supportive secondary school in the Wharfe Valley area on a long-term supply basis from September. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Cover Supervisor, graduate, teaching assistant or individual with strong experience working with young people who is looking to build valuable classroom experience within a secondary school setting.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes during the absence of the regular teacher, delivering pre-prepared work and ensuring pupils remain focused and engaged. You will play an important role in maintaining continuity of learning, promoting positive behaviour and supporting the wider school community throughout the academic term.

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise classes across a range of subjects and year groups during teacher absence.
• Deliver pre-prepared lesson materials and ensure pupils remain on task.
• Manage classroom behaviour confidently and consistently in line with school policies.
• Create a calm, positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Provide support and encouragement to pupils throughout lessons.
• Report back to teaching staff on pupil engagement, progress and any issues that arise.
• Support the wider school community, including break, lunch or pastoral duties where required.

Pre-requisites:

• Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, youth worker, coach or in another role supporting young people.
• Confidence supervising groups of secondary-aged pupils.
• Strong classroom management and communication skills.
• A calm, professional and flexible approach.
• The ability to follow school policies and adapt quickly to different routines.
• A genuine interest in education and supporting young people’s learning and wellbeing.
• Two education or school-based references.
