About Us: At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Job Posting Title: Laboratory Technician Manager Position Type: Classified Department: LSUPBRC CBC - Operations (Rosemary Bolin (00082507)) Work Location: LSU - Pennington Biomedical Pay Grade: Job Description: Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, Laboratory Technician Manager in the Comparative Biology Core Lab. This is a classified position, and rules of the position are governed by State Civil Service. Minimum Qualifications Six years of experience as a laboratory assistant, laboratory technical assistant, laboratory technician, or blood bank phlebotomist. Job Duties Manage the daily supervision of the staff by reviewing subordinates workload, schedules, and job performance. Understand basic animal husbandry requirements, mandated by law, with the ability to train staff. Work with staff on the sentinel program that includes: set up for sample collection, draw blood, and preparation of the tissue samples for the diagnostic lab. Ensure equipment is in good working condition and proper documentation is logged as required by the State and Federal Guidelines. Work with staff on incoming animals that are quarantined from vendors and collaborators. Ensure animal care staff completes proper documentation. Observes animals and documents abnormalities.. Basic technical skills to give medical treatments to animals that include: reading and understanding medical terms, injections of drugs, and simple dilution rates for drug doses. Assist in the training on how to set up a breeding colony, segregates pregnant animals, and maintain production records. Monitor environmental conditions and understands security control measures. Ensure that proper documentation is complete by the animal care staff. Follow and relay Security Standards, instill the importance for the animal care staff, and understand and report the difference in environmental conditions. Ensure the facility is clean and in good working order. Delegate and monitor staff assignments and other areas. Instruct proper use of agents and dilution mixtures to ensure sanitization. Maintain clean and sanitized areas at all times. Train staff with departmental standards for cleaning, preparing, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Perform other related duties assigned, depending upon experience and proficiency levels attained. Such tasks will be accompanied by the proper training so as not to cause harm or injury to the animal care person or the animals. Position-Specific Details Appointment Type: Probational Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group. Work Schedule: Work hours are 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday. This position requires some weekend coverage as well as an on-call schedule. Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The approved hiring range is $20.06-$32.12.
