About the role:

justteachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive school in Great Yarmouth who are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis from September.

This rewarding opportunity is ideal for an individual who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN). The successful candidate will work closely with pupils requiring additional support, helping them to access learning, develop confidence, and achieve their full potential within a positive and supportive school environment.

This role would suit an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant, Learning Support Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Behaviour Support Assistant, or someone with relevant experience supporting children with additional needs in education or care settings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored classroom support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties
  • Build positive, trusting relationships that promote confidence, independence, and engagement in learning
  • Work closely with class teachers, the SENCO, and other professionals to implement individual education and support plans
  • Deliver one-to-one and small group interventions to support academic, social, and emotional development
  • Adapt learning activities and resources to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • Support pupils to develop communication, social, emotional, and independence skills
  • Encourage positive behaviour using consistent strategies and positive reinforcement
  • Assist pupils during lessons, transitions, breaktimes, and other unstructured parts of the school day
  • Monitor pupil progress and provide regular feedback to teaching staff
  • Help create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times
  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to ensuring every child has the opportunity to thrive

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people within an educational, care, youth work, or support setting
  • Experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN), including Autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, or other additional needs is highly desirable
  • A Teaching Assistant or Learning Support qualification is advantageous but not essential
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • A patient, caring, and empathetic approach to supporting children with additional needs
  • The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, colleagues, and parents/carers
  • Good behaviour management skills and the ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A flexible, proactive, and positive attitude
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
  • Two recent education-based references
