Behaviour Mentor - Wigan

About the role:

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join a specialist Secondary SEMH School on a full-time, long-term basis starting in September. This is a rewarding opportunity for an individual who is passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. Working with secondary-aged students, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop positive coping strategies, improve emotional regulation, and build the confidence and resilience needed to achieve both academically and personally within a structured and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build positive and trusting relationships with students to support their engagement and personal development.
• Provide one-to-one and small-group mentoring sessions focused on behaviour, wellbeing, and learning.
• Support the implementation of behaviour support plans and intervention strategies.
• Work collaboratively with teachers and support staff to promote a positive learning environment.
• Monitor pupil progress and behaviour, maintaining accurate records and providing feedback where required.

 

Pre-requisites:

• Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, or additional support requirements.
• Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills.
• A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service or willingness to obtain one.
