For more information, please visit nature.com and follow @NaturePortfolio About the Role Nature’s news team seeks an ambitious science reporter for a July - December internship – a paid, full-time writing position based in our Washington, DC or New York City offices (on a hybrid model). Nature is an international journal publishing ground-breaking research; its newsroom, which is independent, produces must-read stories about science and science policy. Our interns are treated like staff reporters. They cover cutting-edge science, as well as activities at US science agencies. They travel locally for stories as appropriate, and write for both the website and print magazine. Initially, interns will be assigned stories, but ideally, they will eventually pitch their own. Although they primarily cover news, they will have the opportunity to write features. Top candidates will have a strong background in both science and journalism, and should be enthusiastic about writing stories for an audience of researchers, administrators and decision makers. Past interns have gone on to staff positions, including at Carbon Brief, Chemical & Engineering News, The New York Times, and Nature. News interns will receive an hourly wage of $22.00. Experience, Skills & Qualifications: A University degree in a relevant subject Background in science preferred, but not required (applicants who have published science journalism articles previously or completed a science writing/journalism programme will be weighted more heavily) Capable of working in a deadline-driven environment Contributes to an inclusive, collegial work environment To apply: Please submit a cover letter telling us what you’ll bring to the Nature newsroom and what topics you would want to cover; a resume, and 3-5 samples of published journalism that you have written (please submit your clips along with your resume as a single PDF – please do not only submit links to the clips).
