Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, our Emergency Medical Technicians are valuable members of our team who, under the supervision of an attending physician, provide life support services and transport patients in need of emergency hospital care. Emergency Medical Technicians provide basic life support in an out-of-hospital care setting.
Duties of an Emergency Medical Technician may include the following but are not limited to:
Assists Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) and other medical care providers in the provision of advanced level medical care.
Coordinates transport; operates the ambulance; maintains transportation equipment and assures the availability of adequate supplies.
Provides administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator as needed.
Performs other duties as related to the Emergency Medical Service transportation service as assigned.
Qualifications
Required: New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician and the appropriate New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Preferred: One or more of the following certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS), Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS), Pre Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Neonatal Advanced Life Support (NALS), National Registry.
