About the Role

Mid-Level Lab Technician<p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p style="text-align:inherit"></p><p>LAB TECHNICIAN: This position is the mid-skilled worker in the lab. Has successfully completed job training and has demonstrated ability to perform routine quality control testing.</p><p></p><p><b>Shift and Hours:</b> 3rd shift 10pm - 6:30am Monday - Friday</p><p>Training will be on 1st shift for 4 weeks</p><p></p><p><b>Pay:</b> $24.52 per hour</p><p></p><p>JOB QUALIFICATIONS (Required): Education: High School equivalent education (GED) and some college level course and lab work in general and analytical and/or organic chemistry.</p><p></p><p></p><p>Experience: Should have a minimum of two (2) years in commercial laboratory performing physical testing, HPLC/GC chemical analysis and ICP nutrient analysis (preferred). Skills: Ability to perform higher level mathematical calculations, good eye/hand coordination, a good understanding of chemistry concepts, good communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a team. Good understanding and ability to perform chemical analysis using HPLC and GC and experience performing nutrient chemical analysis using ICP instrumentation (preferred) - see specific requirements listed below.</p><p></p><p>JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Complexity of Duties: Duties require the ability to interpret results of testing for accuracy, credibility, compliance with specifications, etc. and to perform simple problem-solving tasks.</p><p></p><p>Environment: This position works primarily in the laboratory areas. Requires good physical, visual and mental attention. On occasion special safety equipment may be required for entry into a hazardous manufacturing area. Waste Disposal: Isolation, remediation, containerizing RCRA hazardous waste generated in the assigned process area and under guidance of supervisory personnel.</p><p></p><p>SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Experience performing various physical property analysis including: • Analytical Gravimetric balance operation • Moisture analysis (Karl Fisher & Moisture balance) • pH operation and calibration • Density measurement • Viscometer measurement • Particle Size analysis • Wet and Dry Screen analysis • Suspension and emulsion testing 2. Gas Chromatography (GC) and Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) a. Basic operation & sample/standards preparation • Knowledge of proper settings for equipment • Ability to make mobile phase and internal standards • Ability to prepare samples for analysis b. Perform instrument maintenance as needed • Replace gas or mobile phase • Know when and how to replace septum • Replace broken column or change columns • Recognize a system problem (pump, column, detector, etc.) and correct with minimal support from more senior technicians • Able to change out sample loops, columns, pumps and detectors c. Ability to set-up instruments for new products/production campaigns d. Knowledge of how to shut down and load methods in case of an emergency power outage e. Demonstrate knowledge of GC/HPLC theory & application including trouble shooting when a problem occurs. 3. Able to recognize analysis problems and determine corrective/verification actions 4. Able to perform basic environmental testing 5. Demonstrate leadership abilities 6. Able to perform basic training for lower-level technicians</p><p></p><p>JOB QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Preferred): Knowledge of basic ICP operation including sample preparation and analysis.</p><p></p><p>EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (Preferred): Two years of college chemistry or degree in related science field.
