About the Role

About the role:

Justteachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive SEMH school in Norwich that is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic Behaviour Mentor who is passionate about supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide consistent, personalised support that enables pupils to overcome barriers to learning, develop positive behaviours, and achieve their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment.

The school is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive setting where every pupil is encouraged to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. This role would suit a calm, patient, and proactive individual who enjoys building positive relationships and is committed to making a lasting difference to the lives of young people.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group mentoring to pupils with SEMH needs, helping them develop positive behaviours, emotional regulation, and resilience.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, acting as a positive role model and promoting self-confidence and independence.
  • Support pupils in managing challenging behaviours using positive behaviour support strategies and de-escalation techniques.
  • Work alongside teachers and support staff to remove barriers to learning and encourage positive engagement in lessons.
  • Assist in implementing behaviour support plans and individual strategies to meet pupils’ needs.
  • Monitor, record, and report on pupil behaviour, wellbeing, and progress, providing regular feedback to teaching staff and senior leaders.
  • Support pupils during transitions, breaktimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities where required.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external professionals to ensure consistent support for pupils.
  • Promote a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where every pupil feels valued and supported.
  • Promote safeguarding and pupil welfare at all times.
  • Uphold the school’s values and commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people with additional needs.

Pre-requisites:

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, or within a specialist education, youth work, or pastoral setting is desirable.
  • A good understanding of positive behaviour management strategies, restorative approaches, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A calm, patient, resilient, and adaptable approach, with the ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
  • The ability to build positive relationships and work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • A commitment to supporting pupils to reach their full potential, both academically and personally.
  • A strong commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, youth work, health and social care, or behaviour support are desirable but not essential.
  • Two recent education-based references.

If you are a passionate and committed Behaviour Mentor looking for a rewarding full-time opportunity within a supportive SEMH school, we would love to hear from you. Apply today to be considered for this exciting long-term role starting in September.
