The U community works together to create an environment driven by purpose, excellence, community, and service. </div><div>Job Summary (Purpose and Function): </div><div>The Fellow Instructor is a fully trained general surgeon who is Board eligible and has a full medical license to practice in Florida. The Fellow Instructor has elected to spend one full year learning from senior faculty and teaching residents advanced laparoscopic surgery.   </div><div>The instructor will not negatively affect the residents' experience in the operating room. The instructor will teach, and perform surgery in conjunction with general surgery residents, chief residents, and attending. The chief residents will select room assignments for the instructor and junior residents.  The purpose and stated goal of this job is to develop the diagnostic and therapeutic skills of the candidate so that they can compete for top academic positions and perform as a leader in surgery nationally and internationally.  </div><div>Responsibilities: </div><div><ul><li>Admission, consultation, evaluation, diagnosis, and non-surgical treatment of patients with general medical problems for safe, effective, and compassionate patient care. Demonstrates dexterity and competency to perform and teach all essential and required procedures. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Effort to include at least eight weeks leading resident teams on the inpatient wards. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Acts as an instructor to provide teaching, supervision and serve as a role model to other residents in the program. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Identifies the need for patient education and orders or provides education. </li></ul></div></div><div><div><ul><li>Comprehensively documents patients' charts in a timely and accurate manner. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family issues, including age, gender, and cultural diversity. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Efficiently performs in emergent situations, including adherence to established clinic and hospital-specific protocols. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Demonstrates applied knowledge base, including integration of skills. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Participates actively in all educational and residency program activities and assumes responsibility for teaching residents, interns, and medical students. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Precept residents and students 1 – 2 half days in the outpatient practice. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Assist with scheduling and coverage arrangements for house staff. </li></ul></div><div><ul><li>Organize, schedule, and contribute to weekly Grand Rounds and Core conferences.
