The Role and Deliverables
- Automate existing Python, PySpark, and SQL-based data pipelines to reduce manual intervention and improve operational efficiency.
- Design, develop, and maintain workflow orchestration solutions using Apache Airflow and cloud-based technologies.
- Assess and migrate individual pipeline components to the most suitable platforms and services where appropriate.
- Improve data pipeline performance, monitoring, reliability, and maintainability across the analytics ecosystem.
- Collaborate with analysts, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and effective data solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across automated workflows while supporting ongoing platform optimisation initiatives.
- Strong Python development experience within data engineering or automation environments.
- Proven expertise with PySpark and distributed data processing frameworks.
- Advanced SQL skills and experience working with large-scale datasets.
- Strong capability in designing, building, and maintaining automated data pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with Apache Airflow, Cloud Composer, Astronomer, or comparable workflow orchestration platforms.
- Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data engineering best practices.
- Experience working within cloud-based data environments.
- Knowledge of Google BigQuery and wider Google Cloud Platform services is advantageous.
- Experience optimising data workflows for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and deployment automation is beneficial.
