About the Role

Meet Joseph Trimarchi, administrative coordinator at our Guilderland Center, NY, manufacturing facility, who is always finding new ways to innovate on the job.

Joseph Trimarchi has worn a lot of different hats in his life. He was a science major in college. He’s been a teacher. He’s owned his own small business. On the weekends, he’s an avid downhill skier who loves the outdoors. Ask him, and he’ll tell you he’s lucky to be able to bring all his experience to his job every day.

“On paper, I’m an administrative coordinator,” says Joseph. “But the great thing about this job—and this company—is I get to play to my strengths and interests and find a way to make an impact every day.”

Joseph was hired to handle day-to-day office operations for Guilderland Center, which manufactures Purina animal nutrition products. His role encompasses everything from ordering raw materials to employee onboarding to paying the utility bills. Turns out, it’s a role that offered him the ideal vantage point to become a changemaker.

Impact That Lasts

It’s hard to keep track of all the ways Joseph has made a lasting impact for Land O’Lakes, its members, and the communities in which we do businesses. He’s radically reduced raw-material waste at the facility, increased upcycling and recycling, improved energy efficiency by tapping into renewables, and helped Land O’Lakes optimize its supplier costs.

“I’m always looking around and asking: Where can we improve? Where are the efficiencies? I really do enjoy that kind of problem solving,” he says.

For Joseph, it’s about finding new ways to stretch—quite literally.

“We did a capital project last spring that allowed us to evaluate how we were using stretch wrap for our palletizers. By partnering with some of our corporate engineers, we discovered we could save material costs and reduce waste be using a stretchier brand of wrap.”

Joseph takes pride in knowing that what’s good for the environment is so often good for the bottom line. “There's a lot of those types of things that can piggyback on each other if you're willing to look,” Joseph says.

Work With a Purpose

The cool thing about working for a cooperative, according to Joseph, is that you don’t have to look over your shoulder. You’re all on the same team.

“As a former educator, I know the history of cooperatives and why they formed,” he says. “I come to work every day for the people I work with and the members we serve. And I say that regularly to our new hires.”

For Joseph, being Rooted In Tomorrow™, and living our purpose, is all about personal and company growth. And that starts with looking to the future.

“As far as I'm concerned, a title doesn't matter,” he says, “I've had the opportunity to really get my hands into a lot of things here that a person normally in this position would not be able to, and that’s awesome.”
