Job Description and Responsibilities The Laborer plays a vital role in daily yard operations, working in a physically demanding environment that can vary with the weather. Their responsibilities include picking and sorting non-ferrous metals from moving conveyors, feeding materials into conveyors and other machinery, assisting mechanics with general maintenance tasks, and cleaning and maintaining the yard. Additionally, the Laborer is responsible for sorting, stacking, moving, and preparing materials for loading and unloading. Handle, organize, inspect, grade, and sort ferrous and non-ferrous metals throughout the yard, including working in conveyor picking stations to remove unwanted material from the product stream Load and unload materials, scrap, and equipment safely using manual labor and/or equipment as required Maintain cleanliness of the yard, production areas, shop, and warehouse spaces through shoveling, scraping, sweeping, debris removal, pressure washing, and general housekeeping Perform routine equipment servicing, minor repairs, cleaning, and upkeep to ensure safe and efficient operation Requirements Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent No experience required, previous experience in a manufacturing, production, or similar scrapyard environment will be considered an asset Knowledge and understanding of metallic materials purchased, ferrous and non-ferrous classifications, will be considered an asset Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including prolonged standing, walking, sitting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, bending, and performing moderate to heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling of up to 50 pounds throughout the workday Able to work in all types of weather – hot, dry summer conditions and cold, harsh winter conditions Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and over mobile radio devices Able to work with minimal supervision/general oversight Must have reliable transportation Our total compensation package includes amazing benefits!
