Teaching Assistant – SEND (Autism Experience)
Location: Chester-le-Street
Start Date: ASAP
Contract: Full-time
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
We are pleased to be working in partnership with a welcoming and supportive primary school in Chester-le-Street who are seeking a dedicated, caring and experienced Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis as soon as possible.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a Teaching Assistant with experience supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly Autism, who is passionate about helping children to thrive within a nurturing, inclusive and structured learning environment.
The Role:
As a Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEND, particularly those with Autism
Support pupils’ academic, social and emotional development
Assist the class teacher with delivering engaging lessons and activities
Adapt learning materials and approaches to meet individual pupil needs
Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation using consistent strategies
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, teaching assistants and senior leaders
Collaborate with therapists and external professionals where appropriate
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you should:
Have previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar support role
Have experience supporting pupils with SEND – essential
Have specific experience working with Autism – essential
Have knowledge of additional needs such as ADHD – desirable
Demonstrate patience, empathy and a calm, nurturing approach
Be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently
Have strong communication skills

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
