Job Brief
The Assistant Manager, Category Marketing (Malaysia) is responsible for supporting the management and growth of assigned product categories within the Malaysia market. This role drives category performance through portfolio optimization, pricing governance, demand planning support, local market insights, go-to-market execution, and coordination of product certification requirements to ensure compliance with Malaysia regulations.
Job Responsibilities
Category & Portfolio Management:
Support end-to-end product lifecycle management: planning, launch, growth, optimization, and phase-out
Monitor product performance (sell-in/sell-out, inventory, margin) and recommend improvement actions
Ensure portfolio relevance based on market dynamics and channel needs
Pricing Management
Support local pricing strategy and pricing architecture by category
Coordinate pricing updates, price lists and internal communication to stakeholders
Track competitor pricing and market movements to ensure competitiveness and margin discipline
Product Certification & Regulatory Compliance
Coordinate local product certification needs and documentation to ensure compliance with Malaysia regulations
Work closely with internal Regulatory/Quality/Technical stakeholders to ensure readiness before launch
Track certification timelines, flag risks early, and support mitigation actions
Demand Planning & Forecast Support
Support monthly/quarterly forecasting in collaboration with Sales and Supply Chain teams
Conduct sell-through and inventory analysis to improve forecast accuracy and stock health
Support pre-S&OP discussions with data-backed insights
Market Insights & Competitor Tracking
Conduct ongoing market and competitor analysis (pricing, launches, promotions, product gaps)
Translate insights into actionable recommendations to support category and launch strategies
Reporting & Business Reviews
Maintain dashboards and reporting trackers on performance, pricing, launches, and inventory
Support monthly business reviews and ad-hoc management updates
Operational Excellence
Ensure accurate and timely maintenance of product database, SKU lifecycle tracking, pricing updates, and compliance documentation
Product governance reviews and support cross-functional collaboration
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Business, or related discipline
3–6 years experience in category marketing / product marketing / trade marketing, preferably in an MNC
Experience with broad SKU portfolios and multi-channel go-to-market execution preferred
Strong commercial acumen and analytical skills (pricing, margin, forecasts, market data)
Strong stakeholder management and ability to work cross-functionally
Proactive, structured, hands-on, and execution-driven
Based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; occasional travel may be required
