About the Role

As a Groundworker in water distribution, you’ll be responsible for digging trenches, laying and connecting water pipes and sewers, and restoring the surroundings after the work is done. You’ll prepare the ground for installations, ensure everything is safely and correctly connected, and usually work alongside excavator operators and other professionals. Your main tasks include: Digging trenches for water pipes and sewers, both mechanically and partially by hand. Installing and replacing water pipes: including main lines and service connections, with various diameters (50–300 mm) and types of fittings. Closing trenches, restoring pavements, and finishing surfaces. Working closely with a team of 2 to 3 colleagues to ensure a safe working environment and compliance with safety regulations. Inspecting materials, pipes, and connections. Some projects involve replacing or installing kilometers of water pipes, meaning you’ll be on-site for several weeks. Other jobs may be completed in just a few days. It’s a varied role, with work at different locations across the northern Netherlands. Experience is a plus, but not required — you’ll learn on the job. We’ll also cover the cost of any certifications you need. There’s plenty of room to grow into roles like Water Distribution Technician. Most projects are located in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, and Flevoland. Your workday starts at 7:00 AM and usually ends around 4:00 PM.
