The project will explore how electric vehicle batteries could provide temporary backup power to help keep essential medical equipment running during power cuts. Learnings from Power Wheels will help inform how similar approaches could be developed safely and implemented across the UK. The Scheme will continue to provide the best possible leasing package for disabled people with a range of suitable vehicles to meet their needs. Current leases will not be affected by any changes. The Motability Foundation and Scheme will continue its support for wheelchair accessible vehicles and adaptations and will maintain a range of vehicles available with no upfront payment. Kia’s PV5 model will join the Motability Scheme as a passenger vehicle from early 2026, firstly with locally converted WAV variants, and a ‘made-in-plant’ PV5 WAV is expected to enter the market later that year. Strategic partnership reinforces both organisations’ commitment to ensuring disabled people are included in the UK’s transition to zero-emission transport, advancing the shared goal of making mobility more accessible and sustainable for everyone.
