Autism Support Worker Location: Scarborough, North Yorkshire Contract: Full-Time Start Date: ASAP Salary: £92 – £110 per day GSL Education are seeking a compassionate, patient, and dedicated Autism Support Worker to join a specialist setting in Scarborough. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and young people with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), supporting them to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. About the School: Specialist provision for children and young people with ASC and additional needs. Focus on developing communication, social skills, and independence. Small class sizes with high staff-to-pupil ratios. Structured, supportive, and inclusive environment. Strong emphasis on teamwork, training, and staff development. Autism Support Worker Responsibilities: Provide one-to-one and group support for pupils with Autism. Support communication using strategies such as PECS, Makaton, visual schedules, and social stories. Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation. Assist with personal care and daily routines as required. Work closely with teachers, therapists, and other support staff to implement individual learning and behaviour plans. Encourage independence and social interaction within structured and unstructured activities. The Ideal Autism Support Worker Will Have: Experience supporting children and young people with ASC in educational or care settings. Understanding of autism, sensory needs, and associated behaviours. Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage challenging situations effectively. Experience in implementing PECS, Makaton, or other communication systems (training can be provided). A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs.
