About the Role

Electrical Engineer (Fabrication and Automation) - Wolverhampton - £competative We are proud to be working in partnership with our client in their search for an Electrical Engineer. This role focuses on maintaining and improving equipment used in aluminium fabrication, including CNC, Press, saws, and automated fabrication equipment, with a good knowledge of robotics, PLC controls, and other systems. This is a shop-floor-based role, requiring a proactive engineer who is comfortable working directly on machinery, solving problems in real time, and supporting production demands. The role of Electrical Engineer Maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems across fabrication equipment, including: CNC, automated / manual saws / presses, rolling / blanking lines and general fabrication equipment Carry out hands-on fault finding and repair to minimise downtime in a fast-paced fabrication environment Program, diagnose, and modify PLC systems (Siemens) Configure and maintain HMI systems, ensuring operators have reliable and efficient machine interfaces Assist with installation, commissioning, and upgrades of fabrication and automation equipment Diagnose and resolve faults in, PLC control systems, HMI/operator panels, drives, motors, encoders and sensors Work closely with production teams to optimise equipment performance and process efficiency Maintain up-to-date electrical schematics, PLC programs, and HMI documentation Support preventative maintenance and continuous improvement projects across the fabrication shop Ensure compliance with electrical standards, machine safety, and health & safety regulations Integrate robots with PLC systems and automated production lines Troubleshoot robotic faults including controllers, teach pendants, sensors, and vision systems The person Proven experience in a hands-on electrical engineering role within fabrication, heavy manufacturing, or metalworking environments Strong working knowledge of: CNC cutting or machining equipment Fabrication machinery and plant systems Electrical fault finding in industrial environments PLC and HMI experience essential: PLC programming, diagnostics, and modification HMI configuration and troubleshooting Robotics experience is essential, ideally within fabrication: Programming and fault finding Experience with: Variable speed drives and servo systems Industrial communication networks (Ethernet/IP) Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and control system schematics Strong, practical problem-solving ability Integrate sensors, drives, and robotic systems into automated workflows Support commissioning of new production lines and equipment Ensure compliance with: BS 7671 Wiring Regulations Machinery safety standards (UKCA / CE marking) Implement and maintain robot safety systems: Light curtains Interlocks Emergency stops Conduct risk assessments for automated and robotic equipment Desirable Skills Experience in aluminium fabrication or metal processing Inspection and testing qualification Background in automation or robotic cells (pick and place) Experience in equipment upgrades, retrofits, or new line installations Mechanical knowledge of fabrication processes Advanced robotics programming and commissioning experience PLC programming knowledge (Siemens) CNC machinery experience Experience with vision systems and smart automation Qualifications & Knowledge HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3, or Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline testing qualification BS7671 18th Edition wiring regulations Level 3 or above Knowledge of: Three-phase systems Motors, drives, and VFDs Sensors and safety circuits Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings Personal Attributes High attention to safety and detail Able to work under pressure in a production-driven setting Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, or automation environment Hands-on experience with industrial robotics and programming Strong fault-finding skills on industrial equipment Team player with good communication skills Comfortable working in a fabrication/shop-floor environment Details Day time hours, no shifts This is 100% on site role If you are interested in the above role, please click apply INDPERMS
