Article body Representing the hospitality, education, advertising and recruitment sectors, attendees included Hilton, Novotel and Academics Ltd as well as UWL’s own Talent Bank, which recruits students for on-campus jobs. With the Christmas season around the corner, there were lots of positions on offer. The fair was an opportunity for students to talk face-to face with an employer, fill out application forms and exchange details. UWL Employer Engagement Officer Kane Ingham, who organised the event, said: The engagement was fantastic. The hall was very busy and at one point the queue of students waiting to come in stretched right through of the building.” Simon, who was attending on behalf of the Strand Palace Hotel, said: We love to come to universities like UWL to recruit. We have quite a range of countries and cultures among our staff, and we are happy to train up students and we appreciate their energy.” One Biomedical Sciences student was interested in exploring opportunities for tutoring in addition to her studies, while another student studying Cybersecurity had put in an application to work with Hilton. I’m looking for an opportunity to boost my personal development and earn money alongside my course,” he explained. Feedback from employers attending the event was extremely positive too. One company had received over 250 completed application forms by the end of the event, while another one had over 160 applications. Some employers were already looking to book a stand for our next part-time job fair in the spring,” Kane added. Outside of events, UWL’s Placement and Employment Service works on building lasting relationships with employers. We hold regular Employer Takeover Sessions which are like an online conference where we invite one company in to talk about who they are and what opportunities are offering. We are always looking to get more varied employers on board and make students aware of what’s on offer,” Kane explained.
