About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Multiskilled Engineer with a strong plumbing background to join our team at Whipsnade Zoo. This role involves carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks across the site, with a primary focus on plumbing and general building maintenance. Additional responsibilities include fabric repairs and fencing works.A full, clean UK driving licence is essential, as travel around the site will be required. While plumbing and fabric maintenance are key aspects of the role, experience with mechanical systems—such as HVAC, ventilation, and general building services—is highly desirable.<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:center;line-height:15pt;"><hr></div>Key Responsibilities<ul><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Perform maintenance and repair work across the site, including routine inspections of plumbing systems (pipes, fixtures, pumps, water heaters) to ensure efficiency and prevent issues.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Undertake a variety of fabric tasks, including carpentry, fencing, paving, and general building repairs.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Support minor painting and decorating tasks as needed.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Assist with plumbing and mechanical tasks, providing support to colleagues when required.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Respond promptly and professionally to reactive maintenance requests.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Ensure all work meets high standards and complies with site procedures and specifications.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Maintain a safe, clean, and organised working environment.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Adhere to all health & safety regulations, risk assessments, and method statements.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Complete accurate job reports, permits, and documentation.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Communicate effectively with site management, subcontractors, stakeholders, and other trades.</li></ul><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:0cm;text-align:center;line-height:15pt;"><hr></div>Essential Skills & Experience<ul><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Proven experience in a similar role.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Good understanding of the built environment and ability to deliver high-quality outcomes promptly.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Thorough knowledge of health & safety regulations and ability to work within compliance.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Professional, customer-focused attitude with integrity and reliability—representing both Pareto and ZSL at all times.</li><li class="MsoNormal" style="line-height:15pt;">Willingness to learn and develop new skills, supporting team growth.</li></ul>
