SEMH Support Assistant – Alternative Provision (Full Time)
Location: Newton Abbot
Hours: 8.30am to 3.30pm
Contract: Long-term with permanent opportunity
Start date: ASAP
GSL Education are proud to be working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Devon to recruit a passionate and resilient SEMH Support Assistant. This setting supports children aged 7-16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and associated behavioural needs, and is known for its nurturing approach and strong staff support.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is committed to making a genuine difference in young people’s lives and is looking for a role with purpose, progression and long-term stability.
The Role
As an SEMH Support Assistant, you will:
Provide consistent, supportive 1:1 and small group support
Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils who require structure and understanding
Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement in learning
Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to implement support strategies
Help create a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment
Who We’re Looking For
We’re keen to hear from individuals who are resilient, adaptable and genuinely passionate about supporting children with additional needs.
You may already have experience within:
SEN or SEMH school settings
Alternative provisions or PRUs
Youth work
Care or support work
Sports coaching or mentoring roles
Transferable skills are highly valued, if you have experience supporting behaviour, building relationships, or working with vulnerable young people, we want to hear from you.
