Senior / Lead Character Technical Animator (Unity3D | Mobile | Automation)
Position OverviewWe are looking for a Senior or Lead Character Technical Animator with a strong Unity3D focus to drive character animation systems, rigs, and automated workflows for our AA and AAA projects, including mobile titles.
This role sits at the intersection of animation, rigging, and technical problem solving. You will work hands-on with characters in Unity3D, building robust rigs, animation systems, and procedural or automated solutions that scale across teams and platforms.
This is a senior-level role with real influence on pipelines, tools, and production standards within a fully remote studio environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesCharacter Technical AnimationCreate and maintain high-quality, gameplay-ready character animations with a strong focus on clarity, responsiveness, and performance
Support both stylized and semi-realistic characters depending on project needs
Ensure animations integrate cleanly with gameplay logic and player input
Rigging & Character SetupDesign, build, and validate game-ready character rigs optimized for Unity3D
Collaborate closely with character artists to ensure clean deformation, efficient skinning, and animator-friendly controls
Adapt rigs for mobile constraints including bone count, performance, and memory limits
Unity3D Animation SystemsImplement and iterate on animations directly in Unity3D using Animator Controllers, blend trees, state machines, and animation layers
Work with tools such as uMotion or similar Unity-based animation solutions
Support animation-driven gameplay features, transitions, and character states
Procedural, Automation & Tools DevelopmentDevelop and maintain procedural or semi-automated animation solutions where appropriate
Create Python scripts or other tooling to automate rigging, animation setup, export, and validation workflows
Improve DCC-to-Unity pipelines with a strong focus on scalability and production efficiency
Mobile & Performance OptimizationEnsure animation systems are optimized for mobile platforms
Balance visual quality with performance, memory usage, and battery considerations
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks related to animation and rigging
Leadership & CollaborationAct as a technical reference for character animation within the team
Help define animation, rigging, and export standards across projects
Support and mentor animators and technical artists when needed
Work closely with designers, programmers, and artists in a fully remote environment
RequirementsExperience5+ years of professional experience in game animation or technical animation
Proven experience working with Unity3D on shipped projects
Experience with mobile games or performance-constrained platforms
Animation & Rigging SkillsStrong understanding of character animation principles and gameplay-driven animation
Solid rigging experience for real-time characters
Deep understanding of animation constraints in game engines
Technical SkillsStrong Unity3D animation implementation skills
Hands-on experience with uMotion or similar Unity animation tools
Python scripting experience for automation and pipeline tools
Experience building procedural or automated solutions for animation or rigging
ToolsProficiency in Maya and or Blender
Comfortable working across DCC tools and Unity3D
Mindset & CommunicationStrong problem-solving and systems-thinking mindset
Comfortable taking ownership of pipelines and technical decisions
Fluent English and ability to collaborate in a remote, international team
Bonus SkillsLead or mentoring experience
Experience with custom Unity editor tools
Knowledge of Houdini for procedural workflows
Experience building scalable character pipelines across multiple projects
Background in both animation and technical art
