About the Role

Temporary Lab Technician Are you practical, reliable and interested in science, recycling or sustainability? We are looking for two temporary Sample Technicians to support a hands-on project within a research-led recycling environment. You do not need to be a graduate, but you will need excellent attention to detail and be comfortable working in a dirty and smelly environment. This is an opportunity to be part of a positive project focused on turning recycled materials into something useful within the circular economy. What you’ll be doing: You will be working with recycled plastic samples that arrive on site in drums. The materials will already have been through a waste disposal process, but the role will still involve hands-on cleaning, handling and recording of samples. Your duties will include:Unpackaging recycled plastic samplesCleaning and washing sample materialsWeighing samples accuratelyTaking photographs of each itemDownloading and saving imagesNaming files correctly with the relevant detailsLogging names, dates, sizes and weightsKeeping clear, accurate and consistent records What we’re looking for: This role would suit someone who is organised, hands-on and happy to follow a clear process. You will need:Excellent attention to detailA reliable and practical approachGood accuracy when recording informationConfidence using basic computer systems to save and name filesA willingness to work in a dirty and smelly environmentAn interest in science, recycling, sustainability or hands-on technical work Students who are back for the holidays will also be considered. Start: Week commencing 29th JuneDuration: Minimum 3 weeks, with the potential to continueHours: Tuesday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5:30pm, with some flexibility on Mondays and Fridays The working environment It is important to be upfront that this is not a clean laboratory role. The environment can be very smelly and dirty due to the nature of the recycled materials being handled.You will need to wear old clothes while working in the processing area. Gloves will be provided, and there are washing facilities on site so clothing worn in that area can be washed before you change back into your own clothes. If you are available from week commencing 29th June and would be interested in a short-term, hands-on role supporting a positive recycling project, we would be keen to hear from you.
