About the role:
Justteachers are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive school in Norwich that is seeking a caring and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant to join their team on a full-time, long-term basis from September.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated and committed Behaviour Support Assistant who is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. The successful candidate will work closely with teachers, pastoral staff, and the wider support team to provide targeted support for students who require additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement in education.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to students who require additional help with behaviour, emotional regulation, and engagement.
- Work with individuals and small groups to promote positive behaviour, confidence, and independence.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and source of encouragement.
- Support the implementation of behaviour plans, intervention strategies, and pastoral support programmes.
- Assist students in managing emotions, developing coping strategies, and improving social skills.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, and SEND staff to ensure students receive consistent support.
- Support students in accessing lessons and overcoming barriers to learning.
- Promote positive behaviour and encourage students to make positive choices in line with the school’s policies.
- Assist with de-escalation strategies and provide calm, consistent support during challenging situations.
- Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teaching and pastoral staff.
- Support students during social times, transitions, educational visits, and wider school activities where appropriate.
- Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive school environment.
- Promote safeguarding and the welfare of all students at all times.
- Uphold the school’s values and commitment to supporting every young person.
Pre-requisites:
- Previous experience working with children or young people in a school, youth, care, or educational setting is desirable.
- Experience supporting students with SEMH, SEND, challenging behaviour, or additional needs is highly advantageous.
- A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is beneficial but not essential.
- A genuine passion for supporting young people and helping them overcome barriers to success.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to remain calm, patient, and resilient when supporting students with challenging behaviour.
- A proactive, flexible, and positive approach to working as part of a wider support team.
- The ability to set clear boundaries while building positive relationships with students.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Two recent education-based references.
