About the Role

We are currently working with a Local Authority in the South West who are looking for an interim Team Lead for SEND Operations to join their team.

You will lead the delivery of statutory SEND services ensuring high-quality Education, Health and Care assessment, planning, and review processes for children and young people aged 0–25. The correct candidate will manage a specialist team and work collaboratively with schools, families, health, and social care partners to improve outcomes, promote inclusion, and ensure compliance with SEND legislation.

Duration: 6 Months

Start date: ASAP

Rate: £350 per day via Umbrella, Inside IR35

Site presence: Hybrid

 

Role Details

  • Lead the delivery of statutory SEND responsibilities within a defined geographical area, ensuring compliance with the Children & Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice 2015
  • Oversee Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessment, planning, and review processes to ensure children and young people receive appropriate support and provision
  • Manage and develop a team responsible for SEND casework, performance, and service delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes and statutory timescales are met
  • Build strong partnerships with schools, health services, social care, families, and other agencies to improve outcomes for children and young people with SEND
  • Promote and embed a culture of co-production, ensuring the voices of children, young people, and families shape service delivery and improvement
  • Lead on a countywide area of SEND specialism, supporting consistent policy and practice across the wider service
  • Monitor service performance, analyse complex information, and drive continuous improvement across SEND processes and provision
  • Support vulnerable groups including children in care, electively home educated children, children missing education, and those receiving EOTAS provision

 

Requirements

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience in a relevant field
  • Significant experience working within education, SEND, or services supporting children and young people
  • Strong understanding of SEND legislation and statutory responsibilities, including the Children & Families Act 2014 and SEND Code of Practice
  • Proven leadership and people management experience, including performance management, staff development, and workload coordination
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with families, schools, and partner agencies
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience handling complex cases, complaints, and appeals
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, work under pressure, and maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Commitment to inclusive practice, co-production, and improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND.
