About Us
Our client is a growing retail operation with multiple store locations dedicated to delivering great customer experiences and supporting our teams on the sales floor and behind the scenes. We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to manage accurate, timely payroll processing while providing basic HR support across the organization.
Position Summary
The Payroll Specialist is responsible for end-to-end payroll processing for hourly and salaried retail employees, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This role also provides administrative HR support, including employee data management, onboarding assistance, and responding to routine employee inquiries.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
- Process bi-weekly/weekly payroll for multi-location retail employees, including hourly, salaried, and overtime pay
- Ensure accurate calculation of wages, bonuses, commissions, PTO, and deductions
- Maintain payroll records and employee data within HRIS/payroll systems
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws
- Manage payroll tax filings, garnishments, and year-end reporting (W-2s)
- Reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
HR Support
- Assist with new hire onboarding, including data entry, I-9 verification, and benefit enrollment support
- Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy and confidentiality
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, and basic HR policies
- Support offboarding processes, including final pay calculations
- Assist HR leadership with audits, reports, and administrative projects as needed
Qualifications
- 2+ years of payroll experience, preferably in a multi-location retail or hourly workforce environment
- Working knowledge of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and payroll best practices
- Experience with payroll/HRIS systems (e.g., ADP, Paychex, UKG, Workday, or similar)
- Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Payroll certification (FPC or CPP)
- Prior experience supporting HR functions in addition to payroll
- Familiarity with California payroll regulations (if applicable)
