Overview
We are seeking an experienced Tax Manager to oversee tax planning, compliance, preparation, and review functions for individuals, businesses, partnerships, corporations, and/or trusts. This role is responsible for managing client relationships, reviewing tax returns, supervising staff, identifying tax-saving opportunities, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
The ideal candidate has strong technical tax knowledge, excellent client-service skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines during busy seasons.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, LLCs, and trusts
- Provide tax planning and advisory services to clients or internal stakeholders
- Research complex tax issues and communicate findings clearly
- Ensure compliance with current tax laws, regulations, and filing requirements
- Review work prepared by staff accountants and provide coaching, feedback, and technical guidance
- Manage client relationships and serve as a primary point of contact for tax-related questions
- Identify opportunities for tax savings, process improvements, and risk reduction
- Coordinate tax projects, deadlines, extensions, estimates, and year-end planning
- Assist with audits, notices, and correspondence from tax authorities
- Stay current on changes to tax laws and communicate potential impacts
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
- CPA license strongly preferred
- 5+ years of tax experience, preferably in public accounting or a corporate tax environment
- Strong knowledge of federal and California tax regulations
- Experience reviewing individual and business tax returns
- Ability to manage multiple clients, projects, and deadlines
- Strong communication, leadership, and analytical skills
- Proficiency with tax software and Microsoft Excel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Taxation or Accounting
- Experience with high-net-worth individuals, closely held businesses, partnerships, S-corps, C-corps, or trusts/estates
- Prior supervisory or team leadership experience
- Experience with tax planning, entity structuring, and multi-state tax matters
