About the Role

Aberdeen or Glasgow | £30,000 to £32,000 | Hybrid working The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established professional services firm with a long track record of advising organisations across a range of sectors, is looking for an experienced Payroll Advisor to join its Enterprise payroll team. This search is being run on a confidential basis; full details of the business will be shared with shortlisted candidates.

This is a strong next step for someone who already has solid payroll experience and is ready to take on more responsibility: advising clients directly, supervising junior colleagues, and getting involved in more technical and complex payroll work.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Advising clients on a range of payroll and compliance matters, applying your technical knowledge across different scenarios to meet their needs
  • Processing complex payrolls and researching solutions to technical problems, escalating where needed
  • Reviewing and issuing client output with a good degree of autonomy, while keeping risk front of mind
  • Building genuine relationships with clients and their teams, and spotting opportunities where the firm could support them further
  • Delegating and managing workflow across the team, making sure junior colleagues understand what's expected and are supported to deliver
  • Reviewing the work of junior colleagues, giving feedback, and helping develop their skills
  • Keeping on top of payroll legislation changes and helping implement updates to processes as needed
  • Reviewing and sending payment runs in line with audit requirements
  • Maintaining clear, accurate process documentation for your client portfolio
  • Testing software updates and liaising with providers when issues come up
  • Acting as a first point of contact for more junior team members needing day-to-day guidance
  • Contributing to monthly control reviews as part of the wider audit process
  • Getting involved in process improvement initiatives across the team

What We're Looking For Experience & qualifications

  • Relevant professional qualifications, plus Higher/A-Level or equivalent
  • A degree is preferred but not essential
  • Around 3 to 4 years' relevant payroll experience, ideally in a similar advisory role
  • Experience managing a client portfolio and working to tight deadlines
  • Some experience of technical compliance and advisory work
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff is an advantage
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • Confident written and verbal communicator
  • Comfortable with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and payroll software
  • A natural problem-solver with sound knowledge of relevant payroll legislation and best practice
  • A team player who builds good relationships at all levels
  • Self-motivated, able to work on your own initiative and turn ideas into action

Why Apply This is a genuinely varied role with a clear path for progression. You'll get real client exposure, a say in how the team runs, and the chance to develop both your technical expertise and your people-management experience. The client offers a supportive, collaborative culture and is investing in the growth of this team. This role is being handled on a confidential basis. The identity of the hiring organisation will be disclosed to candidates who progress to interview.
