About the Role
ENGINEERING LEADER / TECHNICAL CNC MACHINIST Job Type: Direct Hire Location: Redford, MI A growing manufacturing company is seeking an Engineering Leader / Technical CNC Machinist to support new program launches and optimize current jobs across 20 CNC machines, including Horizontal Mills, 32 Pallet Pool Milling Systems, CNC Lathes, and 5 Axis twin spindle mills. This position is ideal for a hands on leader with advanced machining knowledge and strong technical CNC experience. The right person will have experience developing machining strategies, including process and tooling drawings, work holding, and inspection methods for precision machined parts made from forgings and castings. Tight tolerances of 0.001 and complex GD&T and true position requirements are standard. Most part programs run from 1, 000 to 12, 000 machining hours per year, so experience with medium volume production, process development, and fixturing is important. Automation experience is a plus. ResponsibilitiesProvide hands on support for part launches and production issue troubleshooting, including program, fixture, tooling, and process adjustmentsDesign and lead the manufacture of machining fixtures for mill, lathe, assembly, and CMM applications using hydraulic, manual, and pneumatic systemsDevelop processing and PFMEA documentation for new product launches and partner with Quality to finalize control plansCreate in process check procedures, work instructions, and tooling specifications for new and existing programsExecute product launches to meet PPAP timelinesDevelop corrective actions, investigate root causes, and implement engineering changes as neededSupport continuous improvement efforts by identifying efficiency gains, developing proposals, and overseeing improved procedures and equipment installationsMentor junior engineers and machinists to strengthen production support and process improvement effortsTrain operators to reduce production errors and downtimeEstablish tool life standards and drive tooling improvement projects for new and existing programsQualifications3+ years of CAD and drawing experience5+ years of CNC machining experience, including machine setup and operation3+ years of fixture design experience for medium to high volume projects, including drawingsStrong proficiency in hydraulic clamping design for automated or semi automated part loading3+ years of experience selecting and designing cutting tools, including custom toolsPCD tooling experience is a plusExperience integrating automation into CNC machining cells is a plus, including PLC programming, automation design, HMI programming, and end of arm tooling designExperience with 5 axis production machining of aluminum die castings is a plus INDQT
