About the Role
<span><span><span><b>Accounting Director (Controller) – High‑Growth Fintech (Onsite – McLean, VA)</b></span></span></span><br />
<span><span><span>A fast-growing fintech company is seeking an Accounting Director to build and scale its accounting function from the ground up. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you will shape processes, systems, reporting, and team structure during a critical growth phase. This position is fully onsite Monday–Friday in McLean, VA. Relocation will be considered.</span></span></span><br />
<span><span><span><b>What You’ll Do</b></span></span></span>
<ul>
<li><span><span><span>Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing accounting team.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close; ensure timely, accurate, GAAP-compliant results.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Prepare and review financial statements, consolidations, schedules, and technical accounting analyses (including ASC 606).</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Strengthen internal controls, documentation, and audit readiness.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Evaluate and optimize accounting systems (ERP, billing, reconciliation tools); drive automation and process redesign.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Partner with FP&A and cross-functional teams to ensure aligned financial reporting, accurate revenue recognition, and data integrity.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Translate complex accounting concepts into clear, actionable insights for non-finance partners.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Manage audit, tax filings, and compliance; serve as primary contact for external auditors and advisors.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Lead strategic projects including ERP upgrades, workflow automation, data enhancements, and policy development.</span></span></span></li>
</ul>
<span><span><span><b>What You’ll Bring</b></span></span></span>
<ul>
<li><span><span><span>8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>CPA required; Big 4 or similar public accounting experience strongly preferred.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Deep knowledge of US GAAP, ASC 606, and technical accounting.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Experience in SaaS or fintech — subscription billing, revenue models, and deferred revenue.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Proven track record driving process improvements and system implementations.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Strong communication skills and ability to influence at all levels.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Ownership mindset; proactive, solutions-oriented, comfortable navigating ambiguity.</span></span></span></li>
<li><span><span><span>Collaborative leader who models accountability, optimism, and strategic judgment.</span></span></span></li>
