About the Role
Camp Maintenance supports daily camp operations by performing facility maintenance, basic repairs, construction tasks, waste handling, fueling, and general upkeep to ensure a safe, functional remote camp environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Safety
Exercise stop-work authority when necessary
Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and risk assessments for each job
Participate in daily tool box meetings and weekly safety meetings
Work with coworkers to identify hazards in daily tasks
Follow site safety procedures when performing tasks
Adhere to the company's hazardous communications program for on-site hazardous chemicals
Maintenance
Work cooperatively and productively with the maintenance team
Prepare cargo for safe transport via plane
Ensure the camp facilities are in good state of repair by performing basic repairs and maintenance
Segregate garbage and incinerate or place in landfill as needed throughout the day
Fuel vehicles, generators, heaters and other equipment utilizing company procedures
Complete daily inspections, maintenance and fuel logs
Assist with the care and maintenance of wastewater system
Transport passengers to and from their work areas, if necessary
Ensure tools and equipment are in good operating order
Perform other duties as assigned
Construction
Set up tents bases and frames
Assist with carpentry projects, such as building stairs and railings
Communication
Report all safety, environmental and security incidents to site management immediately
QUALFICATIONS
Level 1 - most duties and tasks are performed under supervision
Education and Training
Wastewater Operator Level 1 is an asset
Valid driver license preferred, but not required
Experience
Experience and training in carpentry and plumbing an asset
Previous camp or facilities maintenance experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work effectively in a team setting
Knowledge of basic maintenance and repair techniques and proper use of tools
Knowledge of operating incinerators is an asset
Level 2
Education and Training
Wastewater Operator Level 1 is an asset
Valid driver license preferred
Experience and training in carpentry or plumbing required
Experience
At least one season of previous camp or facilities maintenance experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work effectively in a team setting
Proficient in basic maintenance and repair techniques and proper use of tools
Experience operating incinerators is an asset
Level 3 - Enhanced duties and responsibilities, including performing inspections and weekly reporting
Education and Training
Wastewater Operator Level 1 is strongly preferred
Valid driver license required
Experience and training (certification or diploma) in carpentry or plumbing required
Experience
3-5 seasons of previous camp or facilities maintenance experience required
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to work effectively in a team setting
Proficient in basic maintenance and repair techniques and proper use of tools
Experience operating incinerators is an asset
All levels
Ability to work safely and follow company safety procedures and policies
Ability to be flexible and adaptable to change
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively and in a timely manner
Ability to read and interpret labels, instruction manuals and Safety Data Sheets as well as to record daily notes and shared logs
Ability to perform heavy work, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Ability to work for long periods in a remote location with exposure to inclement weather including snow, rain, wind as well as extremely warm or cold conditions.
This is a seasonal position, expected to work April to October, with a rotational schedule.
