Mechanical Assembly Fitter<br><br>Location<br><br>Bedford<br><br>Salary<em>£30,000 to £35,000, dependent on experience</em><br><br>Job TypeFull-time, Permanent<br><br>About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for an experienced <strong>Mechanical Assembly Fitter</strong> to join a leading manufacturer of pumps used within the land drainage, flood defence and sewage industries.<br><br>Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of a skilled workshop team responsible for the assembly and testing of high-quality pump systems, ensuring customer delivery requirements are met. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong mechanical background who enjoys working in a hands-on engineering environment and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.<br><br>Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Assemble mechanical and electrical components from engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and work instructions to produce completed pump assemblies.<br><br></li><ul><li>Carry out stripping, preparation, termination and continuity testing of electrical cables.<br><br></li><li>Perform mechanical fitting and assembly operations using hand, power and pneumatic tools.<br><br></li><li>Read and interpret engineering drawings, checklists and visual work instructions.<br><br></li><li>Complete dimensional checks, quality inspections and associated production documentation accurately.<br><br></li><li>Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks to move large and heavy components safely around the workshop.<br><br></li><li>Load and unload vehicles as required.<br><br></li><li>Work to production schedules and delivery deadlines.<br><br></li><li>Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment.<br><br></li><li>Ensure all tasks are completed in accordance with Health, Safety, Environmental and Welfare procedures.<br><br></li><li>Support continuous improvement activities and other operational projects as required.<br><br></li></ul></ul>About YouTo be successful in this role, you will have:<br><br>Experience & Qualifications<ul><li>Several years' experience in a Mechanical Fitter, Assembly Fitter or similar engineering role.<br><br></li><ul><li>Experience within a medium to heavy engineering or manufacturing environment.<br><br></li><li>Proven ability to work to production schedules and deadlines.<br><br></li><li>Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings.<br><br></li><li>Experience completing manufacturing, inspection and quality documentation.<br><br></li><li>Good standard of education.<br><br></li><li>Overhead Crane licence/certification desirable (training can be provided).<br><br></li><li>Forklift Truck licence/certification desirable (training can be provided).<br><br></li><li>Good understanding of Health & Safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.<br><br></li></ul></ul>Skills & Attributes<ul><li>Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.<br><br></li><ul><li>Excellent attention to detail.<br><br></li><li>Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.<br><br></li><li>Positive and proactive approach to work.<br><br></li><li>Reliable, trustworthy and dependable.<br><br></li><li>Good verbal and written communication skills.<br><br></li><li>Strong team player with a collaborative attitude.<br><br></li><li>Commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality workmanship.<br><br></li></ul></ul>What's on Offer<ul><li>Permanent, full-time position.<br><br></li><ul><li>Opportunity to join an established and market-leading engineering business.<br><br></li><li>Training and development opportunities, including forklift and overhead crane certification where required.<br><br></li><li>Supportive team environment.<br><br></li><li>Varied and challenging hands-on engineering work.<br><br></li></ul></ul><strong>If you are an experienced Mechanical Assembly Fitter looking for your next opportunity within a successful engineering and manufacturing environment, we'd love to hear from you.</strong>
