Position Summary
The Scientist I, Microbiology Development performs a broad range of microbiological testing activities supporting pharmaceutical products, raw materials, and medical devices. This role operates under the general direction of a Lead Scientist or Manager and works within a team environment to execute both routine and non-routine assays in accordance with USP and ASTM methodologies. Testing includes sterility testing, microbial limits testing, bioburden enumeration, and biological indicator evaluation to support antimicrobial and disinfectant efficacy studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform microbiological testing on pharmaceutical products, raw materials, and medical devices.
  • Execute routine and non-routine assays in compliance with USP and ASTM standards, including sterility testing, microbial limits testing, bioburden enumeration, and biological indicator evaluation.
  • Conduct bacterial culture propagation and prepare microbiological media and reagents.
  • Maintain laboratory organization by labeling plates and tubes and ensuring clean, compliant workspaces.
  • Manage inventory of microbiological media, reagents, and supplies to support continuous lab operations.
  • Assist with qualification, validation, and calibration of laboratory equipment and instrumentation.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Prepare and present experimental data in laboratory meetings with clarity and accuracy.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations and project needs.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, or related scientific field.
  • 1–2 years of laboratory experience preferred.
  • Experience with microbiological techniques and aseptic handling strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with GMP/GDP environments preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow standardized laboratory procedures.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
