About the Role
The Application Packaging Engineer is responsible for the end to end packaging, testing, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise applications across Windows 10/11 environments. The role supports modern deployment technologies, including MSIX and Intune, and ensures reliable delivery of applications through MECM and cloud based management platforms. This position plays a critical part in maintaining high quality packaging standards, supporting governance processes, and ensuring seamless application availability for end users.
Application Packaging & Modernisation
* Package and repackage applications using AdminStudio, InstallShield, and PowerShell.
* Maintain and enforce application naming conventions, packaging standards, and documentation.
* Migrate legacy applications to MSIX, and modern deployment formats supported by Intune.
* Perform compatibility analysis and resolve packaging related issues.
Deployment & Infrastructure Support
* Deploy and troubleshoot applications using MECM (SCCM) and Intune.
* Maintain MECM deployment infrastructure, including collections, boundaries, boundary groups, and distribution points.
* Monitor deployment health and performance, ensuring reliable delivery across user estates.
Governance & Change Management
* Participate in change management processes, ensuring compliance with organisational governance standards.
* Produce packaging documentation, release notes, impact assessments, and operational guides.
* Ensure all application deployments align with security, compliance, and audit requirements.
Cross Team Collaboration
* Work closely with EUC Engineers, Product Owners, Infrastructure teams, and Application Owners.
* Support troubleshooting efforts for complex deployment or compatibility issues.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of packaging and deployment processes.
Required Skills
* Strong experience in AdminStudio, InstallShield, and PowerShell scripting.
* Practical knowledge of MSIX packaging, Intune Win32 app creation, and modern application delivery.
* Hands on experience with Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM/SCCM).
* Understanding of deployment infrastructure components (DPs, boundaries, collections).
* Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and packaging standards.
* Knowledge of Windows 10/11 application compatibility, testing, and remediation.
* Experience working within an ITIL, Agile, or DevOps oriented operational environment.
* Strong problem solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
Desirables Skills:
* Familiarity with Azure AD, Intune compliance policies, and conditional access.
* Experience working in large scale enterprise environments.
* Understanding of security models related to application deployments
* Strong experience in Intune Application Discovery, including analysis of application behaviour, dependencies, and deployment readiness.
* Expertise in application packaging and deployment using AdminStudio, InstallShield, PowerShell, MSIX, MECM, and Intune Win32 packaging.
* Hands on experience in the implementation and management of Microsoft MECM (Current Branch), including administration of collections, boundaries, DPs, and application/OS deployment workflows.
* Proficiency in Windows 10/11 application compatibility testing, remediation, and packaging.
* Strong understanding of modern management principles, including Intune MDM/MAM policies and compliance frameworks.
* Ability to troubleshoot deployment issues across MECM, Intune, and Windows platforms.
* Knowledge of software distribution infrastructure, patching mechanisms, and automated packaging processes.
* Familiarity with OS deployment technologies (MDT, MECM Task Sequences, IPU).
* Experience creating and maintaining enterprise GPOs for application and OS configuration.
* Strong scripting capability with PowerShell for automation, packaging, and deployment tasks.
