About the Role

On Monday, 22 June, a delegation led by Deputy Lord Mayor Alderman Lavelle McIlwrath gathered at Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre for a ceremony to raise the Armed Forces Day flag, marking the start of Armed Forces Week.

He was joined by NI Veterans Commissioner Mr David Johnstone; NI District Chairman Mr Colin Ward; NI District Chair of the Women’s Section, Mrs Janet Ochiltree; and representatives from local Royal British Legion branches, the Ulster Defence Regiment Association, the Armed Forces, the Royal Irish Fusiliers, the NI RBL Motorcycle Branch, the Regenerate Veterans Group and Aaron Watson of St Mark’s Silver Band, Portadown.

Also in attendance were Alderman Glenn Barr; Councillors Ian Wilson, Kyle Savage, Kate Evans, and Peter Haire; along with MLAs Mr Doug Beattie MC and Mr Gareth Wilson.

Throughout Armed Forces Week, the Armed Forces Day flag is raised on buildings and landmarks across the UK, culminating in Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June.
