The Opportunity
This is a senior leadership role offering the chance to shape modern, large-scale data platforms from the ground up. You'll have end-to-end ownership across architecture, delivery, and strategy, driving the development of AI-ready data systems that power real-world applications.

The Role
As Principal Data Engineer, you will lead the design and execution of the company's data strategy, working closely with engineering, product, and senior leadership.
Key responsibilities include:
Defining and owning data platform strategy across pipelines, data lakes, and warehouses
Designing, building, and optimising scalable batch and real-time data pipelines
Establishing robust data governance, quality standards, and compliance frameworks
Architecting data systems for AI and machine learning use cases, including embeddings, vector databases, and RAG workflows
Driving platform modernisation with a focus on performance, scalability, and cost efficiency
Collaborating cross-functionally to align data initiatives with business objectives
Mentoring engineers and championing best practices across the organisation
Skills & Experience
We're looking for a technical leader with a strong background in large-scale data systems:
Proven experience designing and delivering distributed data platforms at scale
Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with additional experience in Scala or similar
Deep expertise in cloud-native data ecosystems and modern data warehousing
Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub
Strong understanding of data modelling, governance frameworks, and data quality practices
Hands-on experience supporting AI/ML data pipelines and workflows
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerised environments
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
