The Role

As Principal Data Engineer, you will lead the design and execution of the company's data strategy, working closely with engineering, product, and senior leadership.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and owning data platform strategy across pipelines, data lakes, and warehouses

  • Designing, building, and optimising scalable batch and real-time data pipelines

  • Establishing robust data governance, quality standards, and compliance frameworks

  • Architecting data systems for AI and machine learning use cases, including embeddings, vector databases, and RAG workflows

  • Driving platform modernisation with a focus on performance, scalability, and cost efficiency

  • Collaborating cross-functionally to align data initiatives with business objectives

  • Mentoring engineers and championing best practices across the organisation

Skills & Experience

We're looking for a technical leader with a strong background in large-scale data systems:

  • Proven experience designing and delivering distributed data platforms at scale

  • Strong programming skills in Python and SQL, with additional experience in Scala or similar

  • Deep expertise in cloud-native data ecosystems and modern data warehousing

  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Pub/Sub

  • Strong understanding of data modelling, governance frameworks, and data quality practices

  • Hands-on experience supporting AI/ML data pipelines and workflows

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and containerised environments

  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience

You’ll report into the Head of Digital & CRM and play a key role in standing up a new CRM platform and driving how the business engages with its customers across the full lifecycle.

The Role
