About the Role

Local Government Lawyer

Fully Remote | £51,129 - £55,605 | Permanent

A forward-thinking public sector organisation is looking to appoint a versatile and pragmatic lawyer into a newly created position within its legal team.

This is a genuinely broad local government role suited to someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and solving problems collaboratively rather than staying narrowly within one specialism.

The team is particularly interested in lawyers with experience across at least two of the following areas:

  • Commercial contracts and procurement
  • Litigation and dispute resolution
  • Governance and public law

That said, this appointment is far more about mindset than ticking every technical box.

You’ll be joining a supportive and modern legal function where lawyers are trusted to manage their own caseloads, build strong relationships with internal clients, and contribute across a wide range of interesting local government matters.

The Opportunity

You will:

  • Manage a varied caseload across multiple areas of local government law
  • Provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice to officers and stakeholders
  • Draft, negotiate and advise on contracts, governance and contentious matters
  • Support the organisation on complex and high-profile projects
  • Work closely with colleagues across different service areas
  • Play a key role in shaping a newly created position with scope to grow

About You

You’ll ideally have:

  • Around 5 years’ PQE, although applications from those outside this range are welcomed
  • Experience handling your own caseload with minimal supervision
  • Strong communication skills and commercial awareness
  • A pragmatic and collaborative approach
  • The confidence to work across a broad range of issues
  • Local government experience or transferable public sector/private practice experience

This role would particularly suit someone who enjoys being a true generalist and wants the flexibility of fully remote working without sacrificing quality of work or responsibility.

What’s on Offer

  • Fully remote working
  • Salary of £51,129 - £55,605
  • Newly created role with long-term scope
  • Varied and intellectually engaging caseload
  • Supportive and flexible team culture
  • Strong work/life balance
