About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and forward-thinking Teacher of Design Technology to join a well-established secondary school in Essex. This is an exciting opportunity to inspire students to develop practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and creative thinking through a varied and dynamic Design Technology curriculum.
As a valued member of the DT department, you will deliver engaging lessons across a range of specialisms, supporting students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5. You will play a key role in fostering innovation, confidence, and technical knowledge, preparing learners for further education and future careers in design, engineering, and technology.
This is a full-time, permanent role within a secondary school setting, starting in September 2025. The position is offered on the Main Pay Range/Upper Pay Range, ensuring your expertise and contribution are recognised. Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver high-quality Design Technology lessons across KS3–KS5
Inspire students to explore creativity, design, and innovation
Monitor and assess progress, providing feedback and guidance
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, effort, and achievement
Contribute to curriculum development within the DT department
Promote safe and effective use of tools, equipment, and workshop spaces
Support extracurricular activities, clubs, and competitions in Design Technology
Collaborate with colleagues and participate in wider school life
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Design Technology or related subject
Experience teaching Design Technology in a secondary school setting
Strong subject knowledge across a range of DT specialisms (e.g., Product Design, Resistant Materials, Graphics, Engineering)
Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills
Ability to inspire and motivate learners of all abilities
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people
A creative and innovative approach to teaching and learning
